Awesome game! I love the idea: Give the grand fork, only to get a queen in return. Kasparov is good. But Karpov should have foseen this coming, as this was not the normal 1975 match, this was a world championship. He should have kept an escape route for his king. I also found quite interesting the last trap by Kasparov: giving up the queen when White would be a few moves from checkmate. By the way, anyone know the better of Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov?

    quote Kenytiger : "

"2 grandmasters , top of their game (world championship game) and kasparov takes his queen , (not a swap off , just takes it , and creates and inevitable mate !"Not exactly true, Karpov exchanged his Queen for two Knights and a Bishop. He got three pieces for his Queen, I think that's a fair trade."

he actually didnt , in the game he trades 2 knights (6points) for a queen (9points). his bishop sacrifice , came after in the game for a different purpose.

    by the way yasha ,

    "39.Rxc1 Re1+  40.Rxe1 Qxe1#"

    its actually ,  39.Rxc1 Re1+  40.Rxe1 Qxe1 41.Bf8 Qxf8#

blackkn8telord , the worst pro game ever , please . you say a stupid move from the fork with the knight ????? dude , those guys are at GM level . i doubt youve even seen a GM , letalone played one or even come the slightest bit close to beating one. what you see as a stupid move , was probably a well thought out way to minimise damage done by the best chess player in the world at that time, Gary kasparov. and while your sitting here dissing the game , if you went up to karpov and told him what you think , he would probably laugh his head off at you......

otherwise, realistically it was piece for move. Game of the week (Sat 9 Dec 07) was better

arguably the worst pro game ever!! The only good move based on a stupid move from black was the fork with the knight

    39.Rxc1 Re1+  40.Rxe1 Qxe1#

moving the knight buys him a little bit more time

Im not that great so I must not be seeing something wrong.  Why doesnt white take rook with rook in move 39.  Instead of moving his knight.  Then if black moves rook to E2.  Then white moves rook to G1.  I just dont get it.  Someone please explan.

yes hes not completely in mate , but it is inevetable , so Karpov resigned !

"It is a great game, I don't know about the best one ever. That would be like looking for the most beautiful woman, there is no such thing."

nice statement , very true , everyone is attracted to different things , same in chess games . i guess this just hits me . 2 grandmasters , top of their game (world championship game) and kasparov takes his queen , (not a swap off , just takes it , and creates and inevitable mate !

i see it as a BRILLIANT game .
