Resiliency / Winning my worst game ever

Submitted by PrideNSorrow on Sun, 02/10/2008 at 7:40am.

Historically I've done terribly defending Benko's opening. So I thought I'd copy-cat Fischer's moves when he played against Pal... a terrible idea mind you given that he lost... but hey its Bobby Fischer and this is a wierd opening so I gave it a shot.

I got absolutely destroyed in the opening, ugliest chess I've played in awhile. I know white did not take advantage of my king side weaknesses so I'm not submitting this game as something for deep study. But rather, for those who may be more apt to give up early.

Oh, and any analysis/suggestion for my play is more than welcome, and much appreciated!

Yeah i was happy to exchange given the piece up and a more active king. In fact, I tried to force the issue, especially with the queens.

i dont think its a good idea to sacrifice your pieces, going into an endgame when your going a piece behind

I'm currently playing my first game against the Benko (I'm sure you can watch it by looking at my profile); I played 1...e4 and I think I am doing fairly well (respectably, at least).

Well fought back, from - as U say - a terrible opening. Your opponent would have won with correct play, but instead U played correctly and he made his mistake on move 28. I'm a 'give-up-to-quickly' player, so thanx for the lesson on persistence.

it seems to me (please correct me if i'm wrong, im a goober) that Nxc5+ was the big mistake. Why allow the pawn to take the knight on c5, opening up the b column?

the only blunder i can see is 28. Rdd2, he should of simply played 28. Rxf6 28... Nxf6 29. a4... not a particulary good move but the move to save material loss...

i suppose i am lucky then never to have gone against the Benko Opening!!
