GeniusKJ, I am not playing on chess.com or other sites. I prefer teaching in person.

GeniusKJ, connecting in person is important to me as a professional instructor. On top of that for tutoring, as it is for playing on a chess site, there are too many disconnects.

You're talking about live chess... I'm talking about coorespondence chess.

GeniusKJ, I would only play online 5 minute 0 delay (or close to that). I would not play online to play slower than OTB. I played postal once for three years. It was too time consuming when I took it seriously, so I played it blindfold. I often returned moves without using a board.

GeniusKJ, If you are playing a move in 5 days, perhaps you have the time to read a book about your neck of the woods: Big Trouble by Lukacs (1997).

I dont play a move in 5 days... thats the time set.... You have that much time to move... I move when I get online which is like 5 times a day.... I have 20ish online games in progress... you're missing the point here... The great thing about online chess is how one can learn... the game doesnt have to be finished in one sitting..

Of course, one can learn from chess at any speed. Each speed is an approach to learning chess. By not playing online, I have more time to study and write. I prefer to play OTB.

Is your club open to anyone? I no longer belong to the USCF. I live in Chester would like to start playing seriously again.  Is there a cost?  Looking forward to playing again, thanks in advance.

guiltyjoe - the club is open to anyone. The costs are shared and minimal. $1 per visit is our latest amount. Tournament games require USCF membership. We are open this Wednesday.

If I am not a member of the USCF will I be able to play at all?  Or are all your games tournament games?  Thanks for the prompt response, by the way.

guiltyjoe - If everyone plays a rated tournament game and you cannot, you can watch and wait for an available casual game. Both types occur before, during, and/or after tournament games. If you are willing to join the USCF, you can now do that online and get that confirmed at once. You probably should use your expired membership ID#. The regular adult fee online is now $29 (by mail or phone it is $36). You get online access to Chess Life. To get a printed Chess Life, a premium membeship is $42 online (instead of $49). The site is uschess.org. If you come to the club, it is best to bring equipment. Of course, if everyone else does, there will be enough.
