Yeah. Too bad, 36..Rxa2 seemed enough to win.
Canadians at Gibraltar
It´s going to be a draw the c3 pawn can´t be defended.
But I think he will try to win the b pawn in exchange for the c pawn, so I still see chances
Well that was a disappointment. Canada's 'chess talk' community will have 36...Rxa2 analyzed this evening, if not sooner.
Spraggett won again, and is now at 5.5. My guess is that the top places will be taken with scores of 8.5 and 8.0, so I think Kevin is out of contention unless there is a flood of draws on the top boards.
Hambleton lost and now is out of contention at 4.5.
Hansen is at 6.0, 1 full point off the lead with 2 rounds left. Likely he'll need 2 wins to have a shot.

Not, he is out...
just to rounds to end and Ivanchuck has 7 points...
I think at this point there are three people who may win,
Chucky- favourite
and then Kamsky or Rapport
GM Hansen started the tournament as the 39th highest rated player, I think top 10 would be pretty impressive anyway.
The pairings are out for round 9.
If Hansen wins his next game, he will be no worse than 3rd and no better than 2nd, with round 10 still to play.
He has seemingly given up the center and is behind in development in a Sicilian Rossolimo. I wonder what he has in mind? GM Li is no lightweight.
Hansen looking good, biggest surprise of the tourney
