Does anyone have any opinion on this matter...?

I love ChessPad 2. There are at least several others but I don't recall the names. This one is fast and pretty simple to install and use. Nice interface. I don't know if it's still supported, but IIRC it was updated in recent years.

One other is "Scid vs. PC". It's been ages since I used the original Scid (since I purchased ChessBase) but this successor to Scid has a  great reputation. However I doubt it's as easy to use and comprehend as ChessPad 2.

Thanks for the depth of your response. It is much appreciated. Smile

I personally think SCID is a bit complicated to use for what I want to do. I personally think the free versions I have found of it have bugs.

You might get better answers sooner if you were to tell us what you want to do with it. We're not mind readers, ya know. Tongue Out

Well, I keep reading that you can build a database of your games and can compile the games of others also. Afterward, you can compare data, look up moves for games and even try to get an idea of things like where database moves usually do or can end in correspondence games. Things like that.
