SURPRISE STAUTON CHESS SET ...Guess

STAUNTON , Obs

For some  chess pieces collectors, "plastic" word is forbidden, even blasphemous, but there are plastic pieces  that are often "unique" and not met their twin wood, because they never existed.

This set simple, practical, beautiful in its lines, with great pawns (The pawn the soul of chess?), bishops with removable heads, hard plastic, almost indestructible, is one of the my  favorite chess pieces  .

It is not by value, the rarity (not easy to find, even in the country of origin), but it is a national set that marked generations of players in this country.

Guess this set.

I have no idea. How old is it?

I'm guessing Czech. They love tall pointy bishops over there.

My Friends This set is if I may so call : a national chess of HUNGARY. Perhaps 1950 till today! I'm not sure. In one of the pictures Blatny plays in 1959!

Two popular chess are used in Hungary : This one, like Portisch is playing in the picture and my chess pieces of the post. Yes, Plastic, in Tournaments, in National Championship and so on. Very  very popular, and  do not be surprised if in a park in Szeged, if in  Budapest Baths someone invites you for a game with these chess pieces and even a gorgeous chess clock like the "MoM"

Susan Polgar! Where can we get such a nice plastic set?

5xadrezmemoria7

virtually impossible. Only in Hungary, and with some luck.
Today the Staunton set  used in this country (almost became national)
is a funny one , but I do not like much. See Picture

The set looks OK to me! Whats the matter with it that you don't like it? Where can we get the wood version? I really like the Euro style of the set.

First one discovery:

Hungarian national plastic chess set still sells in Hungary itself the following site:

http://www.sakkvilag.hu/webaruhaz.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1014&category_id=1

8 Euros!!!!

The wooden chess set  today widely used in Hungary, (see Polgar pictureseems to be of Romanian manufacture and is also currently the "national" set of the country.

Well, I do not dislike this set,  he is an well-finished Staunton chessmen, polished and varnishedking height 95 mm, felted, but...very wide, heavy in appearance, and above all with a Knight that is so cut in the wood (dozens) that is distratctiv. Please look closely at the Knight: It seems an ass, or anything resembling a dinosaur.

A Friend of mine brought me this set from Slovenia  and at  first look I  loved it, but after  I got tired , and stopped using it. I do not say it is not pretty for others guys, but I think it visually ugly! Eg: Dislikes  The little definition between the King and Queen and the end of the pieces' bases that looks like a tire, or a "gas tank". I Think that the Great Mikhail Chigorin love this Khights! Tastes!

I Trie, trie, and I can't find a site that sells this set, but in Hungary is for sure that the set is avaiable.

I would play a game with those pieces any day! The pieces have Character!

Fabulous set.  A refreshing alternative to the mundane Staunton style sets.  Awesome Knights!!

Have to admit I love the Texas Tech board that the female (hungarian?) is playing!

Confusic

Love how the Knight looks !

Probably we can do a custom made order from Amritsar.

Has anyone found a site that sells the Hungarian wood pieces (and will ship to the U.S.)?
