in need of a mentor

I would like an online mentor to help me learn chess better. I am an intermediate level player but I sometimes don't understand why one move is better than another.

Boogalicious

Hi Jason, you are welcome to join our study group. There are a lot of people who would be able and willing to help you with your chess and explain why one move is better than another.

Regards

JasonFauth

Thanks! How do I join?

Boogalicious

I'll send you an invite :)

You are a premium member. Chess.com has many great tools such as ChessMentor and their lesson plans. These, along with feedback from stronger players, can really help.

Be warned, studying with Boogalicious is not free. He may insist on being sent a Chicago style pizza.Laughing

... and then he'll make me do all the work, while he eats the pizza.

This is true! Sorry I didn't mention the brilliant resources here for premo members. They'll help you a lot! Also, I absolutely do insist on a chicago-style pizza delivered to my door in person (airfare not included). Kleelof is correct. Apologies for not mentioning that minor detail Laughing

ahh Rick, what kind of person do you think I am? Surprised I'm an honest fellow. Here, just make your mark on this contract here*

*I, Rick, guarantee to do all the work and eat no more than one slice of pizza.

1 Slice seems pretty generous.

Boogalicious

Every pizza has one ugly slice - it's the natural order of things.

Jason, Kleelof also has a great group which you can find in his profile page, which has a lot of motivated and helpful people, and I'm sure that would also help you develop your skills :)

Sincere thanks for all the offer of help.  I didn't know about the Chess Mentor program as I mostly access the site with my Android App and haven't found it there.  I will try to get on more often with the PC and learn that way.

So far, Boogalicious has been very helpful and has yet to send me his preference for pizza (other than the ugly slice) so I am waiting for that.
