Repeated run-time errors

Just subscribed to diamond subs in order to use Mentor; I'm getting same error ("An error occurred during Ajax response parsing") when trying the first Mentor ROE023 King & Rook vs 2 disconnected pawns on a mac running latest versions of OSX, Safari, Firefox, Chrome etc. I've updated Java and Flash, allowed pop-up windows and restarted the mac/cleared all cookies and temp files. Nothing works.

I'm on a broadband connection with no downtime issues. What can I try next to solve this please?

Try the following:

Start the course again and, instead of pressing the Orange Button that says "Start Training" or somethine like that on the top, go to the bottom and press the "old Windows 98" looking button.

Somehow that changed the color of the board for me (from greenish to brownish) and it allowed me to bypass the AJAX Error.

This might have nothing to do, but since that's how it started working form me I thought I'd share it. I became a Diamond Member only because it started working, not the other way around.

Best of luck pal, hope you are able to fix it!

Many thanks! Tried that today, and indeed it started to work..hopefully will continue!!..

I do not see the button you are talking about. Even more: If I want to advance to the next lesson, I'm being redirected to some "Free Demo" page. Luckily I'm still only in the free trial mode; I'm certainly not interested in paying for something that is not working at all for me. And since others are having the same problem, it certainly is not me.

I'm also having these issues. Unfortunately, upgrading to diamond does not work. However, I can get the mentor to work when I'm not logged in (i.e. playing as a guest) which leads me to believe this is a site issue not my browser. I'm going to try to work through member support to resolve this. However, if I can't get it working, i'll be employing the "30 day money back guarantee" clause as the mentor is the only reason I upgraded to begin with.

Grumblin,

Which browser and version are you using?

Which OS or OSX are you using?

Does this happen on all lessons or just specific ones? Can you let me know which page or lesson you were on when this happened so I can try and replicate please?

Any information you can give, no matter how small it may seem will help :)

JKizzle

I'm having the same issue.  I signed up for Platinum after going through the demo of Mentor.

Now I'm getting the "An error occurred during AJAX Response parsing. The error response will appear in a new popup."

I upgraded Java, rebooted, tried IE, Firefox AND Chrome...it's frustrating how little information Chess.com is providing for such an obviously common issue.

I looked for the "Windows 98" looking button, but didn't see anything either

erik

JKizzle - it's actually not very common, and we don't know how to reproduce it. Can someone please post screenshots of where and how it is happening?

kohai

Is this just on the demo ?

Grumbln

This was during the demo. I reset my browser cache and it didn't help. I then started an "online chess" game at which point my browser asked me if I wanted to run java to which I said "always for this site" (when just running the mentor it never asked me this question). Afterwards the mentor started working. Try it and see if that works for you.

Grumbln

Also, since it has been working I've been very pleased with chess.com services so I won't be asking for my money back. Thanks!

kohai

Happy to hear that :)

I still need to investigate what caused it incase it returns though.

Hello, I am having this same problem.  I am in the same boat as Grumbin, on a Mac, I have updated everything, cleared chaches, tried Safari, Firefox and now Chrome.  I tried playing the "online chess" to see if it asked me to run Java, it did not.  I was excited about the mentor program because I am just learning, but I will not upgrade to the premium level if mentor doesn't work for me....please help Chess.com.  Thanks.

JKizzle

The issue pops up for me whenever I'm inside Chess Mentor and I give the correct answer.  If I play the wrong move, it's fine, but as soon as I give the right move, it pops the message.  I've tried different lessons and it's happening on each one.  Again, this is every browser, after clearing history, cache, cookies, reboots, etc.

Next time give us a READABLE verbatim copy of the error message you're receiving.

Try looking up the specific run time error (cut and paste the error message into a search engine, preferably ixquick or startpage)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822521

http://www.cln.org/searching_faqs.html

Needless to add, don't get involved in any "solutions" that include having to buy software to fix your problem, unless money is no object AND you've already tried fixing it yourself several different ways.

GOOD LUCK!

OK, so this is the error message I get:

An error occurred during AJAX Response parsing.

The error response will appear in a new popup.

The popup that comes up is blank.

The lesson page that I am on is:

http://www.chess.com/chessmentor/view_lesson.html?id=2541

Also, I tried this on my company's PC and got the same results.

If I do not log in ( use the lessons as a guest ) I do not have this issue.

This seems to have worked for at least one person, I suggest you give it a try. This was how I managed to fix Chess Mentor before buying Diamond.

It is a pleasure to be able to contribute to such a great community, Chess Mentor is one of the factors that made such a decision happen!

pxjenkins glad it worked for you too!!

erik

thanks. we are looking into this now

kohai

Do any of you experiencing the ajax error use drupal search as a firefox addon?

lifeisdream
