I've played the 6.Be2 several times and have gotten good positions.

thanx bill!

do you agree that Bd3 is kind of a club players move because it runs the risk of losing a tempo moving it back to e2. also it is probably more strategical at e2 anyway. your thoughts? anyone else's thoughts. i am just a patzer who loves chess and the pirc defense.

6.Bd3 is the main line in the 5...O-O variations. Be3 is the bishop move in the Pirc that you have to be wary of, since Ng4 at an opportune moment could chase the bishop away or even win the bishop pair in some cases. Of course many White players use a setup with h3 or f3 included to prevent this and Bg4 ideas.

Yes, 6.Bd3 is more main line and still castle.  It usually doesn't get kicked back.  Here is an example where Bd3, then Bc4 wins.

i dunno bill. 11... Ne8 was pretty bad, wasn't it? after Nfd7 black can park one of his knights at c5 pretty permanently can't he? and then develop the queen rook and queen, etc. am i missing something? so maybe e5 was a bit over-aggressive??

(yes! i see that Nxd5 then wins a pawn! but so does Ne8! so it's the lady of the tiger!! and Ng4???)

i'm just winging it! u know far more about it than i do!
