This message on the Falcon Wing Gambit was posted on the Yahoo Unorthodox Chess Chess Openings Newsgroup on Sept 22, 2011. The moves are 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 b5.
Last nite while I was still half asleep I envisioned a new gambit in the Bishops Opening 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4. What happens if I play 2...b5 sacrificing the b pawn like in a wing gambit. The accepted line would go 3.Bxb5 Nf6 attacking the e pawn 4.Nc3 guarding the e pawn. 4...Bb2 again attacking the e pawn. 5.d3 guarding the e pawn. 5...Bc5 preparing to castle kingside. 6.Nf3 0-0 7. 0-0 c6 and if 8.Bc4 or Ba4 8...d5 a thrust down the middle.
The question is where will the Black Q be placed. I could place it at b6 like in the Polish Sicilian Gambit or at e7 to support the pawn thrust down the middle of the board. In theory it seems that this could work however I will have to test it against my chess engine Firefly 2350 or in blitz games or run a chess engine tournament to test the line.
I thought about a name for this new gambit and since it is a wing gambit I named it the Falcon Wing Gambit.
I compiled a chess database of 335 games plus 1 analysis line
called Falcon1.pgn and posted the games in the files section at the Yahoo Unorthodox Chess Openings Newsgroup,
I also played 2 test blitz games with the "Falcon Wing Gambit". This opening is not new. It dates back to the 1850's at the time of Adolf Anderssen. And when I checked my own games there were 6 games with this gambit. These games date back to 1998 when I first played them.
