Grunfeld with 5 Bg5 Ne4 6 Bf4!?

Hello Guys,

I'm searching for an interesting, solid line against the Grunfeld and found this:

1 d4 Nf6

2 c4 g6

3 Nc3 d5

4 Nf3 Bg7

5 Bg5 !?

Blacks main defence here is 5...Ne4, but at this point it seems that the only "serious" moves are 6 Bh4 and 6 cxd5, according to "Starting out: The Grunfeld Defence". I wonder why 6 Bf4!? is not covered, since Stockfish says it's a perfectly okay move. I studied this position (after 5...Ne4) and came to the conclusion that this is really interesting. But why is it not played that often?

Something along these lines. Well, after a short Database-journey it seems that the top-players play this line from time to time, but not regualrly. I don't understand why!

To end I have picked three mastergames from the top-level, just to give a view on the resulting positions. But remember: These games are played from the heavy-guys. Imagine you playing this minor-line against an unprepared sunday-player :)

Because I don't want that my opponents have the opportunity to play Nh5 (after White played e3), sort of trapping the bishop with tempo (the long diagonal!) Futhermore, after Black plays Nxc3, the d4-pawn is safer (because it can be protected by two pawns!)

Don't worry about statistics, unless you're a super GM who cares what the statistics are. Play a position because you like it, or don't because you don't like it. Statistics are of little relevance.
