Is there anyway to make this work? [Tromp]

There i an idea in the trompowky opening (1.d4 nf6 2.Bg5)
that I would really like to make work, this particular idea is in regard to the 2..e6 line.

considering the bihop is already on g5, and black has commited e6 a good setup which comes to mind for me would be a stonewall. It is well known that the stonewall works quite alright when black plays e6, and even better, the bishop isnt stuck inside the pawn chain.

But it seems much easier said than done, testing the idea against the computer it always seems to come up with excellent tactical resources which leave me in trouble before move 15, often ironically because the 'bad' bishop is no longer guarding the b2 pawn or the e3 pawn after f4 is played.

If someone can find an ideal move order for white to reach a stonewall style structure it would be of great help.

Honestly the stonewall is primarily a defensive setup used when your opponent locks you out of more ambitious positions.  Yes I know such a thing as the "stonewall attack" exists but it's quite rare and also scores very badly for white according to my database.  If I were you I would take advantage of ..e6 by playing e4, c4, or Nf3 like most Trompowsky players do.

But to answer your question an immediate f4 and you are only a few moves away from reaching your stonewall position.

Here's the only game I have with a 2200+ FIDE player trying it.

The thing about playing such an early stonewall setup is that black is not committed to a ...d5 setup, so he can play ...d6 at any point to counteract white's rather committal setup. A try that's similar for white, but more attractive is for white to play 3.e4, h6 4.Bxf6, Qxf6 5.c3 followed by the setup Bd3, Ne2, Nd2, 0-0, and f4 at some point.

yes the no d5 thing is a problem.

In the game you mentioned which i have looked at Mu, black seems to get a pretty good position, and stopped white from creating a stonewall, and I dont even believe he played quite correct. An early c5 is already very annoying for white if f4 is played too quickly, however if f4 is helf off for too long the computer seems to find ways to apply enough pressure that you must play Nf3 or some other move, ending any chance of reaching a stonewall.

I guess ill go back to playing Nf3, though I may try the idea out in a few blitz games occassionally just for fun.
