Tips on starting a local chess club?

We started a chess club in the Midwood Library in Brooklyn. The man who started the club asked the librarian for permission and it was granted. I noticed there are also other libraries in NYC that have chess clubs also. So the local library is the best way to go. Not only is there plenty of tables available at the library but also you have good traffic, people constantly coming and going who are interested in chess. If you can't afford to purchase sets tell everyone to bring their own.

I agree with local library. I used to be part of a meetup group (that app/ website is great!) that met in other places, like coffee shops.   we switched venue to library and then saw a big increase in numbers.
