That Doe's not surprise me one little bit, "Glorified Members"
Titled players and free diamond membership

Yeah, chess.com have been looking at ways to get stronger players to join the site. I don't know if giving diamond members is what they do, but it would make a lot of sense to do so.
Why not? Masters have earned respect through the amount of work they have done thoroughly learning the game and through them we can learn to improve our game faster than any other method out there.
You don't seriously think a Master should have to pay membership dues on a site which needs Titled players to help advertise the strength of their site,do you?

I don't agree with you but you are a diamond member, don't need to say no moor.

but shouldn't they pay there money like most people ?
...the arguement is, that they are given free membership so that the site has a good pool of titled player, which in return, promotes the site. It's a marketing idea.

how does it promote the site
because people then come to see what the titled players are doing. Apparently Hikaru Nakamura, is a massive crowd puller on casual sites. Think of it, if there was a site with your fave player hanging around would you not be keen to be apart of that. Also, you can advertise, chess.com, it's we're masters play and all sorts of stuff.

Nope. They've already paid their dues.
....and I was always told that chess players were in poverty!

how does it promote the site
Rich, some people's opinions -- in their areas of expertise -- count more than others' -- I pay my doctor, I pay my lawyer, and I'd pay my chess coach, if I had one, but I don't... I pay chess.com instead -- and receive many benefits from the membership including being able to hobnob with the occassional master, and read his or her opinions regarding chess topics. The participating presence of masters on the site is a definite plus, and I think it's a no brainer they get comp'd.

o.k, but if you were starting out and there was a site with titled players and generally had a buzz around it and seemed to be like the place to be and where people went - would you perhaps think about joining that site? Could you possibly, even though you don't have a favourite player, see how that could benifit a chess site.
Different people, different views on things. From my viewpoint the more Masters the better because they make the site stronger and more credible.I paid for a Lifetime Diamond back when they had that option and it seems like bringing the strong players is the best way to learn and gives me more interesting opponents than some of the other weaker free chess sites around. On several sites I've played at I made the top 10 and when an amateur(I'm an A player in the U.S.C.F.)can make the top 10 they probably don't have much to advertise and won't last long.

Of course, the higher rated you are and the more prestigeous your title is, the better the conditions. Rich, you might not be aware of it, but there are open tournaments where top GMs get a substantial appearance fee, while low-rated amateurs pay a large admission fee. Unfair? Try to become an elite GM and let me know if it's easy enough
Today I was looking at members of the group "Titled and Professional Players" owned by DanielBlake. I've noticed that all the members have diamond membership. Does it mean that all titled players get free diamond membership? If so, what titles - only GM and IM (that's who are the group's members) or also FM, NM and CM? And for how long is this membership?
