V2 is the best version
V2 DESERVES TO LIVE ON

OK chess.com users. Here's a place to post everything good about V2 and debate why V2 should be maintained. Personally, I think chess.com as a business should consider that by upsetting the status quo and FORCING people to use V3 instead of democratically keeping V2 for the old school, they will certainly not gain any users, only lose some. Any sensible manager would realize that just like gravitation accumulates dust into planets, users beget users.
Unfortunately, chess.com is not a democracy...
These arguments have already made many times in various threads, you really are wasting your time

Nice try, but mods don't make these decisions.
It's quite simply impossible to keep v2 indefinitely, as it's based in part on web dinosaurs such as Flash, which is going away within three years (and good riddance).
Additionally, maintaining two versions of the site is expensive and bug-prone. Even if it was possible to keep v2 running indefinitely, the costs of doing so are very high.
Also, certain changes cannot be made to v3 without breaking v2. Keeping v2 around limits the enhancements they can add to v3.
And if it was a democracy, v3 would win by a landslide. Last I heard, which was several weeks ago, only 5% of users were still dropping into v2 at least part of the time. Those 5% are very vocal, but they are a minority.
That's not to say that nobody has any legitimate concerns about v3. I like it, but not everyone does. But keeping v2 simply isn't an option. It had to be replaced. So trying to convince Erik to keep it around indefinitely simply isn't possible. A better option would be to give specific feedback on how v3 can be improved to address your concerns.

I might be more open to using v3 if my timers (in live chess) worked there. I can't see how much time I have left on my games (in v3 live chess) when it's my move on google chrome.

I am all about V2. It offends me that this site "upgraded" (really, downgraded) users to V3 automatically. I only play 1 minute 0 seconds. Unfortunately, 1 minute is UNPLAYABLE on V3. I am very dismayed that this once-great site has abandoned playability in favor of catering to VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO tablet kiddies. It's truly a shame that they allowed new time controls like 10 seconds, that work even LESS than 1 min 0 seconds in V3!

Thx to SUPERMOD MGleason for detailed explanation. REALLY. Your arguments are all perfectly rational...the most important being Google's war on Flash. KNOW, that I did all 50 mods on ur guys page and ur the only one coming back with something. Good on you sir !!
So, tell ERIC that the following changes must be communicated to the java guys doing V3 (as a veteran computer engineer this advice is free to chess.com because it's a brilliant site):
1) Allow the chess board to be on the right side (easy).
2) Color the users names in chat (easy).
3) Don't interrupt the chat thread every two seconds with new events. People can see those events elsewhere if they've decided to move on (easy).
4) We all realize that windows8-10 fetishists need a button for everything. So put a button up somewhere that does it with menus. Give people the choice between button navigation and menu navigation. I think this is the main reason chess.com (which is the best chess site by far...let's work together to keep it that way ) might lose a few old school die-hards burying V2 (hard).

And for the record, is an absolute farce to say that 95-98% of users would "choose" V3. Everyone was forced to V3. The only people that actually made an effort to choose it were those that willingly clicked on "try the new chess.com", and once they did, it was made VERY difficult to find any way back to the functional version(aka V2)! The few that could find the TINY option to switch back have had a couple months of bliss before this new push to force everyone on V3 forever. NO THANKS BRO.

And 5) Get some systems guy to GET THE TIMERS WORKING in V3 since ERIC seems to have made up his mind to not integrate html5 into V2 instead.

personally I prefer V2 over v3 has I find things are easier to find but unfortunately nature abhores a vacuum and one has to evolve (except if you a fundamentalist christian I suppose)

@logozar and @luminarius, my timers work correctly in v3 in Chrome. I would submit a bug report on that one - v3 has a bug report tool under the Help menu. I submitted a bug report with screenshots of your comments, but since I can't duplicate the problem there's probably something different about your setup that the site doesn't like.
@luminarius, I submitted a suggestion with a screenshot of your comment. v3 has a "make a suggestion" feature under the help menu.
BTW, it's not Google's war on Flash. Every single web security guy on the planet hates Flash. It's bug-prone and a major security vulnerability. Multiple major browsers no longer run it by default. All the way back in 2010, Steve Jobs banned it from the iPhone. Everyone except Adobe has been wanting Flash to die for about a decade, and HTML5 has been a good - and superior - replacement for quite some time.

If you're new, you're on V3.
Please make your points on this in the club that @erik created to do this in - and which he is actually participating in at https://www.chess.com/club/chess-com-v2.

Dave, you've got a problem with Hal (à la Kubrick...)
https://www.chess.com/club/chess-com-v2 only shows chess clubs near me here in Paris France...of which I'm fully aware already.

Repeating the same post won't do anything. They read it, they know what your opinions and suggestions are.

Not exactly repetition. Think about it the Dave v Hal (from Kubrick's classic 2001 A Space Odyssey) analogy is somewhat relevant here.
The important thing is trying to keep chess.com managers mods and what have you from ignoring the foundation of their own brilliant success (so on into Greek tragedy territory). Dave's comment just shows to what extent they have abandonned humility leaning on that success, by insisting on V2's good points, they come back with : "We've got more users than ever"...maybe so...but chess.com has a SOUL. If one's inflating numbers with android chat addicts, but ignoring the needs and concerns of the serious chess player (which I consider myself...please see logozar comment on timer problems in V3 above) then chess.com very naively runs the risk of losing its SOUL. Did anyone ever stop to consider that the increase in numbers may simply be the effect of Newtonian momentum? Anyway two points...
1) The link given by Dave above does not work as he pretends.
2) The serious mod with links to Eric and the V3 java programmers is MGleason...so please everyone trying very hard to keep chess.com from shooting themselves in the foot and selling their soul to some android devil analogy...send your sincere and well documented bug reports to MGleason.

I am new and never really saw v2.
The first thought is that if there are people that are used to it then chess.com must think of them and keep it.
On the other hand if a new platform with a new code is designed , it might be impossible to keep something from the old platform.
We had a similar problem in my work when new software appeared and everything had to change. It was very difficult for all of us but there was really no choice. But was the new software better? No it wasn't , it wasn't even faster. It was a senseless meaningless change.Unfortunately most changes are just that, senseless and meaningless.
So I assume that v3 is in no way better than v2 and if that is the case then this change has no meaning.
So to anyone who might "listen" out there(I really doubt anyone even bothers to read all this), please give people the option to choose.
It's not practical to let people choose. It's very expensive to continue to run two versions. They've already kept two versions running a lot longer than Erik wanted, in order to make the transition easier for people.
And v2 had to go. You can't keep something based on Flash around; not only is it a major security hole, Adobe is going to kill Flash in 2020. v2 simply had to be replaced.
The only question is what the replacement is going to look like. And that's where everyone giving feedback is helpful - what do you want the new version of the site to look like? How do you want it to work?
