White to move.
This was played last night in round 3 of a game 20 tournament.  My opponent and I split the point.  We each had about 5 minutes, and is this worth playing out?
I know whites chance is with playing e4.

Theoretically drawn, but it's certainly possible to lose even with a lot more time.

You have an extra pawn and your opponent has only 5 minutes and no winning chances. I'd play it out.

Thats pretty much the analysis we all came up with.  We each had 5 minutes, we all agreed that "theorectically" its a draw.  And since this is a tournament where i have a chance of drawing all my games (a desire of mine), i was ok with the result.

Oh, I guess black's f pawn is on f6, meaning white's f pawn can support the e pawn in challenging it (in the book-like f7-g6-h5 chain this isn't possible). Also as Juanjo points out the g pawn is weak. On Ra7 intending Rg7 maybe f5 is forced.

Never hurts to make some threats to see what might turn up. If you were happy with a draw, that's a good result, but OTOH if you had played it out you'd have some of your questions answered already.

If it wasnt a G20, yea i would have played it out longer, hoping for a mistake.

This is going to sound bad, but I think it depends on the rating of your opponent who is on the weaker side. 2000-2300 play on till you don't know how and then maybe draw. 2300+ draw. U2000 play till black obtains an easy draw. I have used this method several times with success. Of course probably bad to tell your opponent you played against his rating if he is U2300.

Our quick ratings are nearly identical - 1702 and 1704.  We each had about 5 minutes left, and if you knew the history of my opponent and I you would understand the draw :-)  Robert and I have been going at it for over 30 years, and in all of that time, 1 win seperates our total games.  Its kinda like a tradition that we draw.
