Even GMs can blunder

The GM Jonny Hector was visiting my local chessclub yesterday giving lecture and ended the evening with a simultan chess vs. 12 of our members.

I ended with a surprising win and will never forget it. Yes I was lucky, but still a win vs. a GM!

Congratz for the win!

In simultanious games it can happen. In the recet simul. games gueiness record GM Alik Gershon lost to a mate in 1 in favorable position (piece up I think)! of course he was playing around 520 games and he was still playing close to 50 when he lost, but it's still a simple mate in 1! (I got a draw)

You can also often find blunders in GM games.. I remeber seeing a game of Kasparov losing a piece to a simple fork in the early part of the game..

In conclusion - YES, GMs are humans aswell...

Nicely done !

That's the bummer of becoming a professional titled player: you are EXPECTED to win almost every time against amateur counterparts. Nevertheless, you relentlessly exploited the position, regardless of how scary his rating might have been at the time. Kudos!

Thanks.

It was a strange situation. I'm that type of guy that is to concerned about my opponents rating. Not only vs. a gm like this but also against 1700+ in otb tournaments. So when I already after 18 moves had this attack I totally forgot his title and enjoyed it even more. A surreal situation that I won't forget.

I don't mind! Still recall that as one of my best chess moments ever.

Great job! Simultaneous exhibitors usually play white though, it's the first time I see a participant plays white.

And 10 years later, the guy is not titled. But he did pick the perfect opening vs Jonny Hector, something clearcut and boring. Normally GM plays White in simul, but perhaps Jonny was being kind.
