Play 1.e4. As black, play 1...e5 against e4, and 1...d5 against d4. Against anything else, just occupy the center before they do. That way you get a feel for different types of positions (open and closed). For strategies, in the opening, develop pieces, occupy the center, and castle. After that you want to play the most forcing move (checks, captures, threats) as long as you can't find any way for your opponent to defend against your move. If you have no forcing moves, find your most poorly placed piece and improve it's position. Focus on attacking things that can't be fixed, such as attacking isolated pawns. In the endgame, you typically need to find a way to queen a pawn before your opponent does.
Anti-losing streak!

Try this blog or any of the many other blogs by top players. They often talk about how to get better. I like this one and many others.

I have been playing chess on and off for a long time now. Lately I have decided to take my love for this game to this next level. I have been experimenting with new openings and strategy. All an attempt to really think more deeply about the pieces on the board. However, I have also encountered a losing streak. At some point it is a good idea, I think, to talk with others and receive advice. So if any of you in chess.com-o-sphere would like to pass along to those on this thread some wisdom, I would be grateful. Thank you.
