Blindfold chess.

This is an idea i had. so i know that there is a blindfold setting in live chess, but it is difficult to get lower rated players to play me (i think so at least) could chess.com create a new rating for blindfold chess? so if i can play at a level of 1149 blindfolded then there is stats like how many games i have played win loss what my best win is. Surely this could be done easily enough? Another thing, how many people can play blindfolded? i can, and i guess my rating would be about 1000 to 1200. Trust me i have played about 10 games blindfolded and only one draw with 9 wins. Against lower rated players for sure though. how many people can play blindfolded though? could you have blindfolded tournaments? just some ideas PS Maybe i should have posted this in help and support.

Is there any interest in this area?

I agree with you completely.

Would be very easy to cheat the system with a board next to your pc.

is there a staff member who can make this a reality? i believe that it is a good idea and that there is interest in it. (i really should have posted this in help and support!)

Why does anyone want to cheat at chess? To win.

And if there is now a rating involved, more reason.

on chess.com it would not make sences. i guess people think your a great blindfolded player...

i tried it too and it was fun. But:

1)It didnt result in any improvement.

2)I always tried to finish the game before 25-30 moves(which got annoying after some time)

3)The option can be changed anytime during the game back and forth. (so if two people agreed to play blindfold they will never know for sure if the other is peeking)

But if there is a seperate option for blindfold matches/tournaments, we may get to play against higher rated opponents, though the interest may die out soon. Anyways, always a good idea to try.

I totally agree that it makes no sense - at all.

But chess.com bans people everyday that cheat on this site.

And I agree with Fear_the_Queen, their loss if they cheat. Yet they still do it.

also a good exersize is to take a PNG of a game, master games are good, and go through it move by move blindfolded. then at a set end set up the position in the way you think it was and see how close you are. it is very challenging

What is the deal with multiple accounts here on chess.com? I have heard lots of people saying that they used to be called "X". If they don't mind maybe the best way is to have an account that you use purely for blindfold chess? If this is allowed I think I will do this now.

ah you can't have mulipul accounts. it is considered cheating.

xwarriour

we can try the blindfold thing right now(both sides should choose it).interested?

CP6033

http://support.chess.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/15/1/can-i-have-multiple-accounts this explains chess.coms reasons for not being able to have two accounts. the reason i responded so quickly is because i once wanted two accounts two and someone told me that you could have two accounts falsely

The squares highlight showing the square they moved from and the square they moved too.

CP6033

kohai what do you think of the idea?

Initially I had no idea anyone could memorize all the places the pieces were, then last year while I was in the States with the Chess.com team, I watched Danny Rensch play blindfold one way against Jon one of our senior programmers. Jon could see all pieces on the board, but Danny hid his own eyes so he wouldn't see the moves. I sat there is total awe at how Danny could 20 moves in remember all the moves, where all the pieces were so he could make his moves.. I am amazed at how people play it, but its not something I myself could play unless I practised a LOT at it.

I guess years of chess playing for Danny and a good memory really does help when playing blindfold though.

ah see i can play blindfolded, but i can't remeber EVERYThing where they are, but i can play
