chess.com doesn't do itself credit

We are assuming of course that all the high rated players we have are legitimate.  I have heard from one player that 2400+ players admit to each other that they use Rykba for "certain positions".  Personally, I do not see the fun nor achievement in that but if its widespread then maybe titles are not appropriate.  As for the ratings themselves being accurate in the first place, I think we all know they are inflated.  Maybe 200 points worth.  Aside from that I totally agree with wafflemaster's assertion that its A GREAT SITE.

Well if they don't have a title to give chess.com, then it doesn't really matter how they got their rating.  I just want all the players who play here with titles to let chess.com know about their titles so they can use it as a selling point.

Sure ratings are inflated, but because there are so few at the top it can actually come back down and get deflated.  I'm not saying the 2900 players are FIDE 2900... sure that's inflated... but there is a good portion of 2500-2600 chess.com players in the middle of all this whose ratings are just about right considering how the IMs and FMs we do have registered struggle to stay in that pack.

ICC has well known titled players. I don't think many people know the ones here. It's really up to the titled players here to win some prestigious tournament or something. It's the titled players fault

I suppose so.  But if chess.com could get them to come out to the public it would be worth it.  So even though chess.com isn't at fault for the situation, it would do a lot of good to start aggressively trying to run all these guys though the system and get their titles on the profile for all to see.

That way you can start advertising what a great place (well it's already great... so even better!) it is to play here at chess.com.

If Chess.com wants to successfully advertise, they should give us girls a t-shirt! No better way to bring people to the site than to have the Chess.com logo spread across our boobs, walking around the cityWinkLaughing

They may not have been to a tournament recently after gaining a lot of strength... or they're not the A and B class players they pretend to be.  Imagine if Carlsen was a member here who played games... he'd be constantly flooded with messages from his fans and people wanting lessons or advice or an autograph or something.

So I think some of these great titled players have resorted to faking a lower rating so that they'll be left alone.... and so far it seems to have worked.  I just happened to be lucky enough to put 2 and 2 together and realize what an untapped resource these 300 some unregistered titled strength players have to offer chess.com.

It is possible for players to get much higher ratings at correspondence chess than over the board if they invest a fair amount of time and use databases and analysis boards effectively, especially since some players don't do so. I briefly peaked about 400 points higher than my old OTB rating, but it did seem inflated to me at the time and  I was not surprised that it fell back again when a nice run of wins came to an end. But I have been disappointed to see players with much larger differences being identified as cheaters. I still don't understand why they bother playing without ever getting the satisfaction of winning a game, rather than merely conning the opponent.

Carlsen can just have his home page inexcessible unless he "friends" you. And I don't know if it's logical for a titled player to fake their rating. I mean, they would have to cheat to keep it low. Makes no sense, waffle.

I honestly don't know what a good chess.com to FIDE rating conversion would be.

I'm just basing it off of the fact that there are 11 FMs, IMs, and GMs (collectively) who are struggleing to keep up in this 300 man pack.  This obviously  means that these 300 moedest players have for some reason chosen not to register their titles with chess.com

My point being that if chess.com were to go after these guys to get their titles, then they could use it as a seeling point to the general public.

here for example is a known B class player ( OTB ) that is a pawn up against a well known GM ... the GM is 2600 FIDE but here the B class player is also 200 points higher rated than the GM !??  Who thinks this B class player just suddenly improved a lot ?!  Undecided

I honestly don't know why GM Becerra does it.

Must be rather like banging your head repeatedly against a silicon wall.

Naa, "edward hunting" is probably just his alias.  Besides if the guy was doing what you're suggesting then chess.com would ban him promptly.

I don't think Carlsen himself is here... but these other players are probably titled players in real life... most of them anyway.

Nope.... look him up on uschess.org.  He is a NC player.

http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=40716077

here he beats the 2600 GM and with black !

This is why more titled players dont bother to actually play here ....

chess.com is just what it has intended to be from the start - a little bit of everything.

What I mean is this random alias he's chosen just happens to be the same name of some USCF guy in NC.  It's too bad really, registering his title with chess.com would be ideal.

Turn Based is an engine free-for-all once you look at players rated above 2500 on this site.

If you want to see a page of those I can guarantee are engine users currently active on site, then...

echess/players.html

Staff simply don't have the resources to investigate & ban all engine users & it's far easier to ban them in Live Chess for some reason or other.

Very few of the top TB players play regularly now in LC.  Those that dooften have a massive discrepancy between ratings.

Virtually all the players in this thread:

chesscom---list-of-caught-cheaters?lc=1#last_comment

played LC regularly & got banned as a result.
