favorite blogs

I don't generally like to publish such things because I'm not some infallible critic plus, if I forget someone, or just fail to mention someone, I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. But I feel blogs don't always get the attention they deserve. If you look at the Article section, you'll find mediocre articles getting thousands of views, while great blog entries might get less than 100 views.  I realize that this is the nature of the beast, but still I'd like to try to open some minds and direct them towards some blogs I find exceptional.

First is Dozy's Inferno about which I don't know enought words to say all the great things that need to be said.

Another is Amy's Blog by qixel (the brilliant and engaging Amy).

Yet another lady blogger who has captured my mind is Aurora of queenspwned's blog. Warning: she's a great writer, though little is chess-centric

Being from the South (USA), I have in inbred weakness of Southerners. nocab's blog by Michael Bacon of Georgia (USA) Chess fame which only updates on occassion, is quite poignant and worth anyone's time.

Finally, there's Blunderprone's Magical History Tour of Great Chess - not light reading, but always wonderful.

kurtgodden has returned to the site after an extended absence, and his blog is certainly worth a look.

I had the pleasure of meeting waldemar when he visited Wales last year and his dual skills of being a qualified chess trainer and a counsellor make for some interesting insights into the psychology of the game. 

Rookhouse seems to have stopped posting either here or at his own blog, but his 'back catalogue' is interesting.

I also personally enjoy loomis, phobetor and hicetnunc's blogs.

I just came from reading ADK's latest blog entries. I'd encourage others to do likewise.

I'm a bit slow off the mark, batgirl.  I only just found this thread.

Many thanks for your kindness though I have to confess to being a little (though pleasantly) surprised by the praise. As I said to you on another occasion, mine are pretty light-weight topics and don't require anything like the erudition you, and a few of the other better bloggers, have displayed in post after post.

When I was a teenager I was so shy I found it hard to keep a conversation going so I started telling jokes and stories to fill in the awkward silences.  Now I'm a bit older, and no longer shy, I'm still telling stories -- but now I use them to fill in the gaps in my chess knowledge.

I also write for lazy readers: there's not too much text in any topic and the games are mostly brevities. Maybe that's a reflection of my own lazy habits but it seems to work and the blog is fairly popular ... and that makes it worth continuing with it.

Of course, none of us are reaching more than a tiny percentage of the 800,000 registered members, but it's nice to know people actually read what we write, and it's great to get feedback.

Thanks for naming a few people who write interesting blogs.  I'll make a point of visiting them.
