Gaining a lot of points quickly

Just a question: how normal is it to raise rapidly in points? Then also when do you even out or stop raising as quickly? I ask this because since I hit 1000 i started to have a bursts of point gain for 100 points. Though in the next 100 rating points i think I'm going to even out. Is it normal to have times when you rise quickly up 100 to 150 rating points?

Then when you get to a steady proggarssion should you go back to a mix of studying and playing. Before I had a burst in points i study my games right after I played them then later on in the day. I find some common mistakes I make and try to avoid them. Also studying tactics and some masters games with analysing by another master who can easily explain the things they did right and wrong and pointing tactics and what they were aiming for in the game.

How do you get points, and how many at a time? The reason I asked is because sometime when I win if I have say 750 it will go to 760, but I noticed that I lost and the winner went from 800 to 906. Whathappen?

Ratings Deviations (RD, part of the Glicko rating systems) can greatly impact how much ratings will actually move. Players with high RD values will have larger swings until they have a sufficient number of games where their rating is more accurate (reflected in a lower RD). Also, if a player if inactive for a while, their RD becomes higher and can cause swings until more recent games show if their performance matches their rating.
