Who is the GM with the least amount of losses or lowest percentage rate for losses ? My bet its between Capablanca Lasker Petrosian Fischer Karpov Kasparov Leko Ulf Anderson and Carlson maybe Schletcher (might of spelled it wrong)

Didn't Kasporov lose 1 in every 3 games? I'm not saying that's bad...but isn't that about as good as you can hope for?

Nup

+785 -118 =771

LoekBergman

Morphy maybe? Years after his retreat from chess was he still considered the best chess player: +198 -26 =24

Swindlers_List

Capablanca!
+372 -46 =262

Lasker
+362 -89 =180

Tal
+1117 -298 =1303

Petrosian
+697 -159 =1072

Karpov
+986 -242 =1312

Leko
+329 -182 =830

Ulf
+556 -232 =1438

Carlsen
+385 -167 =423

I think Mikhail Tal takes the cake!

Lasker
+362 -89 =180     losing percentage: 14.10%

Tal
+1117 -298 =1303     losing percentage: 10.96%

Petrosian
+697 -159 =1072     losing percentage: 8.25%

Karpov
+986 -242 =1312     losing percentage: 9.53%

Carlsen

I think Mikhail Tal takes the cake!

So Capalanca wins, second Petrosian, third Karpov.

Some others:

Fischer

+417 -85 =246     losing percentage: 11.36%

So, with these players included, our new top 3 are:

#1 Capablanca, #2 Kasparov, #3 Petrosian

EternalChess

Carlsen in the last few years.

I don't go by that metric because not lose very often can also mean draws a very lot.  Still, these statistics are interesting.

Can someone explain to me exactly what those numbers mean? I'm sincerely trying to figure it out and even googled it, but I couldn't figure it out. Thankyou.

Ben_Dubuque

what about morphies numbers that were posted earlier

Mr_Handyman

Leko is the king of draw-makers IMHO

fabelhaft

Kasparov played only super tournaments though, in Capablanca's day most tournaments had a bottom group of 5-10 players that were many classes weaker than the best, so difficult to just compare percentages.

GMVillads

Peter Leko plays draws with >2300 People and

In tal memorial you Can also talk about Andrawkin!

To take an extreme example, look at this tournament, one of the three Capa played during his eight years as undefeated. Great result but not very strong opposition:

For ex:

Kasparov's record is +785 -118 =771. This means that out of all the serious games that he has played in his career as a chess player, he's won 785, lost 118 and drawn 771.
