My game is coming along.  In 1300's consistently now which is still terrible, but better than 1200's.. If anyone has tips on how to combat the white bishop on Queen Mainline in Gambit (Bf5) I'd love to see the correct strategy..

still don't understand how you managed to make a very bad oppening but still managed to win.

I like 3.Bd3 and then recapture cxd3 if Black chooses to exchange.  That stabilizes the center and offers decent chances.

First you launch c4, which needs to be backed up by your white bishop. Then you fiancheto. You are wasting time and not sticking to one strategy. Once your bishop defends the knight, you left d3 unguarded. You could attack again with Bf1, but wasting more time.

Finally, you played b4. That pawn was the last easy attack you had left to get rid of the bishop's anchor, the c4 pawn. From then on you have to do some tricky knight manuevering to attack the bishop and deal with the passed pawn. Yes, that c pawn is not a passed pawn.

By playing both your e pawn and your g pawn, you weakened f3. Now your queen will be stuck guarding that knight.

Chesserroo2

You won because black brought the queen out early, allowing you to take over the center by threatening it. Black also pulled the bishop out, when that was not necessary. Black should have just retreated the queen. Finally, black recaptured the knight with the f pawn instead of the h pawn. Black could have had a rook aimed right at your castle, and could have brought a pawn closer to the center, to control that area. Instead, black captured away from the center and exposed the king at f7.

Chesserroo2

On move 17 Black gave away the passed pawn with c3. It was not backed up sufficiently. Black is blundering. Instead of bringing the queen out early, Black should have played Bd6, Qe7, Bxa3.

Chesserroo2

Black gave away the knight on a6, but still should have won. I would have played the bishop to c5 to block the rook. then I would have pushed pawns to take the bishop off that diagonal. Then i would have taken the pawn with the rook. Then I would have marched my pawns.

You don't graduate from garbage to trash, it's the other way around.

This is the luckiest win I ever seen... If black can see one move ahead he would have had an easy win...up 6 pawns and losing....that's more unlikely to lose than up a queen...@The OP You should really thank your  opponent, he literally give you a win.Laughing

16 ... fxg6 is an abomination. After hg, would White be anxious to castle short?

Fortune favors the prepared.  That's why I like playing people, rather than computers.  Even if you've made mistakes and your game is ruined, if you watch for your window of opportunity, it may present itself.  Smile

Yes, you could've played a better game, and I like that you're looking to learn (and others better than myself are giving pointers on this), but I do want to congratulate you on sticking in there and making the most of your opportunity when it came along!
