so in the games, under "details", there's a score of black & white. how is that score generated?

it's always confused me and i was hoping one of you good people could fill me in.

Hi Marinox,

welcome to this community!

I suppose you are referring to the "captured pieces" score?  It is based on the respective value of the different kinds of pieces, metered in pawn units:

Knight and bishop are supposed to be worth 3 pawns each, a rook 5 and a queen 9. The score adds the values of the captured pieces and tells you whether you are material up or down in the game. As material is only one of a number of factors determining whose position is superior, I would never judge the position by that score alone, but in many cases it may give you a first idea.

Another useful information under "details" is the "show ratings adjustment" button. When it click it, you will be shown in which way the different possible outcomes of the game in progress will affect your rating.

I hope I have managed to answer your question :-)

Cheers,
