Resign

What can be said about the opponent who WILL NEVER resign?  More specifically, what can be said about the opponent who WILL NOT resign when the game is an absolute / guaranteed loss?

I understand that some people get lucky and hope for a stale mate, but why?  Is that what chess is all about?

Isnt there any honor in knowing when to resign, and saying "well done, you beat me"?

Think about it this way, actually forcing the win is good practice. Why do you think people suggest studying books full of problems? It is good training in the tactics needed to win!

It's poor sportsmanship but it's his right to fight to the absolute end I say kill him full steam ahead run over him with a truck if he can't see reason.

The conditional move feature also allows a player to try to swindle the game. I recently had a game which i thought was won. My opponent first offered a draw (does he know something I don't?) then had a series of five conditional moves mapped out. Fortunately I wasn't intimidated and played on through the whole series of moves. My opponent resigned immediately afterwards.

I hardly ever resign because I like to play it through to the bitter end and see either my or my opponent's king trapped at the end.

I have a question, though: If you resign, then is your rating lowered less than if you had been checkmated?

Espron - A loss is a loss.  The rating is affected regardless of the manner in which you lose.

If an opponent is so obviously lost then it should be any trouble to finish him off.
