Looking at my stats I notice I win exactly 50% of my games, draw 3% and lose the rest.  I'm happy with that, although the stat for my opponents rating is currently about 100 below mine and ideally I guess the two would be even.

Seems to be a very low draw rate, only a handful in my hundred odd games. Even as black I only draw 4% of the time, which troubles me somewhat, maybe I'm being too aggressive.

Do other people around my rating (~1750) have similar stats, or are they drawing more?

I expect people closer to 2000 are drawing many more games, am I correct?

I rarely draw, and I don't know why. I think I went over one hundred games without drawing recently. My average opponent rating is far lower than mine, but that is easily explained. I have been on this site for two years, the first of which I roamed between a minimum rating of a 1300 a maximum below 1600, usually far below 1600. I used to play hundreds of games at a time and now it is difficult to make my average opponent rating budge.

You've played about one hundred games. The more games you play, the more you'll be able to tell.

Also called the law of averages.

Well maybe my stats aren't so strange as I thought.

Still, at higher levels soooo many games are drawn, and although I'm actually happier with more results i'm puzzled as to why a draw for me would be such a freak occurance.

I've posted about this before, the draw ratio on this site is very low, even for higher rated players.

Mine is one of the highest I've seen at around my level. I have no explanation.

Hello.

I have wondered about this as well. My draw percentage is 11% or about one in every 9 games. This is far below my OTB which is probably around 40% or so when playing like opponents.

The site average, last I checked was around 3%.

The site average rating is 1384. This means, on average, a player here will be somewhat inexperienced, even by online standards.

I believe that this means that there are a statistically significant portion of these games being played between players described above. When these two average (as defined above) players play one another, then one (or both)of them are more likely to make a blunder that the other capitalizes on, as opposed to a game that is equal from move 1.

Of course, if one of these average players is to play someone much higher or lower rated, then a win (or loss) is more likely as well.

I think there are reasons outside of the numbers, but I am not sure what they are.

Good question, however.

Mmmmm, yeah, it would seem an aweful amount of blunders are being made considering it's correspondence chess... perhaps people don't take things as seriously online.

Any thoughts on why that could be?

I haven't drawn any games since I made the first post.

Oh, with the exception of vote chess.
