Maybe his opponents read his books?
tata steel round 10.
weird move by sokolov!?

L'Ami is holding on pretty well against Carlsen (240pt rating difference!)
Although just now he made a move that at first eye seems bad. 30. ... Qa3.. whats it going to do there? Where can it go? Can it come back in time if needed? Computer doesnt evaluate it as very bad though..
Endgame for Carlsen-L'ami now. He's up a pawn, and the evaluation is +0.5. Can't wait to see the boa constrictor stifle his prey :)
The game still is interesting. It doesnt look like a draw to me! But how will it continu? No idea.. L'Ami is a bit short on time though..
The endgame that Carlsen played was very instructive. I did not expect the late assault on the Black King when it was down to R+B+pawns vs R+B+pawns. I had expected a probing of weaknesess, positioning of pieces and then at the right time trading of outside, and picking up a kingside pawn. I must study this one for long enough to realize I have no clue about the endgame...
two rounds in a row now we have seen sokolov playing d4 and his opponent opt to play the nimzo. sokolov has written several books on this opening and i expected him to do well in both of these games, but he has already lost any kind of advantage from the opening. why is this?
