Too Many Bots

I'm kind of suspicious at the number of Bots here. At least their name should suggest it so we know we are playing against machines - I hate that.

"Bots"? You mean cheaters?

EinsteinFan1879

Why is it that people complain about cheaters so much? Wouldn't it be easier to simply report them and be done with it. If they are cheating then let the staff take care of them.

nicoboy

You can never tell about a cheaters. That's not what a Bot  is anyway. A bot is actually placed by the administrators of the site to keep things looking busy. So I'm complaining to them rather than an individual. If the administrators  are going to use bots then their name should suggest this so I can make  my own decision as to whether I  play or refuse.

Other people should insist on this as well.

Although I strongly agree, I have not noticed when I was playing a bot I guess.  I am pretty new here though so I might not have noticed.

How can you possibly tell when you're playing a bot?

Jarlaxle78

This is not World of Warcraft.  Not very many bots here.

When you play enough Chess you kinda know when you are playing a machine.

From my experience they play a very boring and methodical type game, near perfect. You say hello or you make a comment, they usually don't answer back.

And it seems they follow me when my rating is high and they show up with a significantly lower rating only to beat the hell out of me.

All admins in online games have options to use bots, keeps the pipeline looking busy. And that is ok so long as we can have a choice to play them or wait for a real person.

Teja

I don't know if this is true - that this site is using bots to stimulate as well as simulate traffic activity. If it is using bots, I would think it would be for the purpose of detecting  engine use, like setting a thief to catch a thief.

But if what you say is true nicoboy, then I find this practice disturbing as it affects our ratings and games record.

Um. Playing computers does not lead to boring games, I find. All the burried tactics are exploited and the game is quick and bloody. They don't maneuver around unless YOU'RE playing perfectly.

The admins are absolutely not using computers or bots to make it look busy. There are thousands of active users and hundreds online at every second of the day. They have absolutely no reason to screw their members this way. If someone offered any evidence for this, I'd be willing to bet that this site would lose thousands of members overnight.

Show us some games that you suspect were played by computers.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to use them during slow periods while you wait for others to join in ,but they should be easily identifiable with their names they use. I play other non chess online games the admins make it clear that you playing against bots. As people start joining in, the bots are taken out. So one can still choose to play while waiting, or not.

Are you trying to say that with 560k+ members, chess.com has to use bots so that we can play matches? seriously you are delusional.

SeitelJN

As far as people who cheat with engines go, y'all suck - get some skills, but I do think it would be kind of cool if somehow the staff came up with profiles or something that were engines and if you beat it you get a trophy, medal or something.

So I'm a bot because I don't like answering hello's? That's stupid. I also rarely say 'good game' after any game.

I sometimes get beat by players with low ratings. There's a few reasons that might happen. The player is either cheating, trying harder and it's you that is making the poor moves they take advantage of, or they usually play higher rated people than them and their rating is subsequentially artificially lower than their abilities.

Evidence was asked for and evidence was not provided. To the OP, you will of course understand that we don't just take your word for it that you were playing a bot.

But you are in a quandry, since it is against the site rules to report someone publicly in the forums. So I suggest that you just report the individual to the staff, or send someone who's responded to you a message.

Sounds like Paranoid Delusions!

BigOto

I don't know of any bots.

Pose

imagine one of the bots is the deep blue 2.0 new version :O, doesnt even exist and wont ever happened but.. ok.. im boring.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I thought they fixed the bug which ensured that one wins at least 1 rating point for every victory.

Besides, ChessNetwork declined all my challenges.

It still seems that you get the 1 rating point for quick games. And did he deny your challenge to live chess games? I know he will only play 1 0, but in any case that sure would be a fun match to watch.

On the note of ChessNetwork being a bot, I'd have to say that's a firm no. I've played against him and gotten favorable positions, or seen him play blunders that no computer would ever play when analyzing the game afterwards. He's just too quick.
