Using Lessons from TT in Games

I have done a lot of tactics training to improve including all the Chess Mentor tactics courses and nearly 5000 tactics puzzles in tactics trainer.  What I am finding is a bit strange.  I am definately doing better in games, but they seem to be different.  Often I can akwardly set up a tactic.  What I mean by that is I make a move that has no purpose other than to threaten a tactic and it works because it is not seen by my opponent.  It is like a one move threat but instead of threatening a capture that is easily defended I threaten a combination that can be defended.

The other issue is complete calculation.  Sometimes when I think I have a tactic, I miss one of my opponents responses somewhere in the line.  In TT they are all tactics so they should all work once you spot them.  Not so in a game.

For those of you who have been here before, am I going thru a learning curve that will even out with time and more practice, or is this just a hazard of studying this way?

thank you Please continue to post updates on tactics training. I am not as far along as you. I can't get past the 900 level.

When you are newer at TT, just ignore the clock and calculate it.  If you miss, you can try again.  If it gives you the solution, try again and see the solution in your head before you move.  Eventually you will recognize patterns and improve.
