Hi Omega_Doom,

I will here show you how to tackle the line you played as white against Philidor defense to obtain an advantage.>>>

Hi Bareilly, I didn't see why white played Bc4 there; just giving the impetus to black. Wouldn't white be better simply pushing his h pawn? He can probably play RxN if N takes on h5. If h7-h5 then white has a great target.

Also, after white plays Be3, what's to stop black from an immediate Ng4, followed by Bg7? I don't know the theory of this Philidor but it looks fine for black and, hence, not fine for white.

All you people touting playing standard games online are different.

Some people dont want to sit infront of a computer screen for a couple hours to play 1 long game. As soon as you get to 1500 or so, it gets really hard to find an opponent.

And i prefer playing longer games OTB because i can review my game with my opponent when i get wrecked.

Btw, I just spent 2 minutes looking at the position in the original game (post #1) after 18. Nd5 ... bxa3 and it looks to me like white is completely won at that point, unless I missed something sinister. Ponz may also be interested.

My first thought was that obviously
19. bxa3 is terrible and white's correct move is b2-b3. But then it struck me that white has 19. Nxf6 and black's intermediary ab+ doesn't achieve anything, since white has Kb1.

So White may be threatening 19 ... Bxf6 20 g5 (to displace or block the f6 bishop) ... (bishop moves) 21. R x h7 ... KxR 22 R h1+ etc.

I need to look at it on a board really. Don't own an engine.

Not 20. g5 but 20. Rxh7! And after 20. ... Kxh7 21. Rh1+ Bh4 22. Bg5! and black is in big trouble. Rxh4+ is comming and black king is in awkward position. I again had very good postion but blew it away with last move.

Maybe if you changed your name to alpha_rising it would help you sub-consciously.

I'm not superstitious. What i'm doing now is analizing all my losses. And turned out in many games i had an advantage but couldn't maintain it properly or missed simple tactic. For example in one game i could trap opponent's queen. It's a shocker. Smile

I thought not, Omega doom. If you play Rxh7 right away, he can interpose the bishop to h4 next check and then support it with a pawn. I thought all that happens is that white loses the exchange and that therefore g5 is necessary. Because, if he sees it then you win his bishop and you still have probably a winning attack. But I haven't looked at it with a board set up and I was tired. Take another look and see if you agree with me.

You might be right but I didn't see a forced win after 21 ... Bh4, so I imagined that 20 g5 was stronger. I looked at 20 Rxh7 first of all, of course.

It's totally forgivable in a 5 or 10 minute game. But even so, if you want to improve your rating so you get to play stronger players from whom you can learn more, you probably need to stop taking risks, remember that you're worthy of being 1600, just be patient and play pragmatically for a while. That means not giving the opposition chances. After a while winning will become a habit just like losing seems to be a habit now.

I didn't see Bg5 either it's a tricky move. And moves like Kb1 and knight retreat in some variations as well. At first glance white position is very dangerous since their king is exposed but black one is exposed much more. I'm going to dedicated more time to analysis and sharpening my tactical vision as well. I've found that TT on this site isn't that helpfull to me. I need to train tactics more systemically.

I just played a really tactical 10 minute game in which I lost a couple of pieces chasing his king and eventually won as my position almost miraculously clarified to being an exchange down, 40 seconds on my clock as opposed to his 5 minutes and a clear win for me. I wish I knew how to post games here. You could all have a laugh at my mistakes and the fact that I was nevertheless lucky enough to win! Innocent I'm cool with that!

Hello again. I've recovered most of my previous rating. Indeed i just needed some rest. Now i enjoy playing again. Look at one of my latest victories. Very bizarre game.
