BEWARE BILLING FOR PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP

Oh

Overlord4200

I know I'm a bit late to the party but I've never personally had an issue. I had an incident where I accidentally bought a year instead of a month. They refunded me the extra and returned me to a monthly subscription. No problems. People need to read the terms before they sign up to a 'SUBSCRIPTION' service....

I am new to chess.com, although I have played chess all my life.  When chess.com offered me a free trial premium membership, it said after the trial period, I could choose $14.99 / month or $99 a year to continue.  When the trial period was ending, I got a message from chess.com to renew or cancel.  It did not offer me the monthly payment, so I cancelled it.  Imagine my surprise when my bank account was debited the entire $99.  This was, in fact, a very unpleasant surprise because I am a graduate student and I can not afford a huge monthly payment.  I cancelled the premium membership because I don't have time to play more then 3 tournaments a week.  So, in addition to the cost, I don't have a need for a premium membership.

While I value chess.com and all the wonderful chess features, I think it's wrong to offer a trial membership and not acknowledge when the customer cancels the membership at the end of the trial period.  I am really angry because I have bills I planned to pay when my monthly student grant is deposited into my bank account.  I have demanded that chess.com immediately refund my money.  In the meantime, I am terribly inconvenienced.  Chess.com needs to pay attention to when customers choose to cancel.

This is exact situtation that i am facing. Hope i get my refund.

You have to open a ticket for a refund, it's not automatic.

I am getting a membership, but I don't have £110.04! Do I get billed 1 year after the end of my free trial or at the end of my free trial?

After the trial ends you get charged the term you have set up. So if that's the yearly option, you'll get the full year charge.

The trial process mentions that if not cancelled, it will automatically charge after the trial ends. There's no notification about the trial ending or renewals coming up.

However, you can contact support to handle a refund.
