Go in to Settings -> Themes and choose what you want.
The score shows which side has more pieces (points) off the board.
For example, in one of my games, I am down a pawn as white and there is +1 next to the white pieces. On another, I am up 2 pawns as black and there is a +2 next to white pieces. On another I'm up 3 pawns as white and there is a +3 next to the black pieces.
