This also happened in a group I am admin in.. if it has happened throughout the site my guess is that the members are still there but there was a glitch in the numbers. I hope we can get a more clear answer soon..

i hear that chess.com was doing a clean up awhile ago and removing defunct members who were not members anymore or had moved on,might be why your members are reduced Teo,happened on other sites also appearently.
Yes I guessed they cleanend for members without accounts but this did not happen for Jungle Team, another team of mine.
Like Kitty I hope for a clear answer from staff...

They are getting rid of all the banned members from the site who were kept on the teams roster because of a bug. They are killin the bug now so everone has true member count. I would suggest you do a physcal member count to see if the numbers are right or still wrong.....
Well, closed accounts, either from banning or voluntarily. Your friend count will decrease accordingly, but not the group counts. Not all groups are corrected at the same time.

1000 members all in one place and counting through, "1, 2, 3..." 
Nope, just count the pages of members:)
Already did that for my teams Climbing Bird. Dont have to count 1, 2, 3, like your doing. Takes to long, I just went to members and counted pages of members x 10 per page.
Yep, but the counts are still wrong, right? All group numbers are wrong:)
Yesterday we were 1140 members in Chess Star Resort ..one hour later I saw we suddenly were 990 members..what happens in the chess.com system?
I feel sure that no one left the team..so it must be a system failure. Are there any explanation?
