players letting time run out

What do you mean by that?
When a player runs out of time, you automatically get the win and points.
However, games with less than 4 moves are not considered.
i've had people just let the time run out because they know they aren't going to win and i wait the time but it doesn't give me the win. when i go back it shows that i abandoned the game.
Game abandoned happens only in live chess.
OK. You should not close the live chess till your opponent time runs-out.
Unfortunately few people abuse the time availablity to irritate the opponents. On the other side, before playing the match you agreed on the timings, and it is reasonable to expect you to meet the timings.

I thought that had happened too, since he had 1hr left and when I checked it again it disappeared. Turns out he was on vacation. Maybe same is happening to you?
hey walt : when people loosing leaves the game you just have to wait 2 min and automatically you get the win and the points ( if the game is rated )

Players who let time run out either have a good reason or not. Those with good reason we forgive you, those who do it on purpose are simply lacking.
5 years waiting period is quite long though.
