A puzzle from N.Grigoriev :

White to play and win

nswwsn
I doubt I played black correctly but the d pawn just seems to fast to deal with because black's king would get checked if it stays put.
Sherlock__Holmes

Nswwsn gave the solution for #188 .The curious thing about this puzzle is that in different lines all the 3 black pawns goes to Queens and in every one case are trapped by white Queen.

And here is a puzzle from V.Tacu :

                            The importance of small details

white to play and win

Sherlock__Holmes

Smiley, you found half of the solution - look for small details in the white moves and I think you will find the second half Smile

Sherlock__Holmes

1.Rxc6 a5 2.Rb6+ Kc4 3.Ra6 Kb4  leads to draw ....

 I suppose , this is the first "don't-take-the-pawn" ....

nswwsn

My guess is start with Rb7+ to seperate the king from at least one of the 2 pawns but I can't say for certain.

Sherlock__Holmes

I also think 1.Rb7+ must be the first move:

But there is a better move for black - 1...Kc3  and may be there is hidden real solution...

Sherlock__Holmes

I am not sure if I am exact enough, but I think the idea must be :

I count 3 times "don't-take-the-pawn" Smile

Sherlock__Holmes

You mean this position : I think there is no problem for white .

Sherlock__Holmes

1.Ne6 is not yhe right first move.

Smiley, in your line, after 3.Bg7 black can play 3...Kb2 (instead of 3...Qc1+) .
