grr
Cheetah Or Badger?
I usually first take enough pieces so that my opponent has no way of winning even if I make a mistake, and the look for a quick checkmate.
fast checkmate is the best
unless you want someone raging at you afterwards of course
If someone rages at you, just tell them they should have resigned if they didn't want to play anymore.
If somebody won't resign when they have only their king and I am about to promote a pawn, I promote to a rook and take a few more moves to checkmate them when it would if I promoted to a queen.
Usually If it's a vicious battle, I intend to kill my prey as swiftly as possible. If I have a beef with someone who irritates me, I try to intimidate them by making them pay! It makes the prize much more rewarding!
If there's a mate available, take it. Dragging it out risks drifting into statemate or a surprise checkmate or embarrassing and possibly deadly loss of material.
And when the game reverses on you, everyone will laugh at you.
Speaking about games on the net, i.e. not serious games, I try to use the won position as a training medium for understanding the one concept in Chess which is the most complex for me to grasp in actual play: zugzwang.
So I try to put the opponent in zugzwang, if the position allows me to do so, but it's not related with sadism or other things like that: it's training for me, in the most secure enviorment (I don't try to do it when I'm not already winning by a good margin). Which doesn't insure complete security, really, as some shameful tactical blunders showed to me, making me lose some of those won games in which I tried for this training idea.
(BTW, with the same spirit, often I try to look for stalemate tricks when I have a totally lost position, so, torture-wise, I tend to get as much as I give)
In a game... You see you're going to win... What do you do?: crush your opponent and go for a fast checkmate? OR do you let them suffer, taking piece by piece?...
