a very sub-ordinary game by all means, would really love an analysis of it though.

Here is a recent Budapest I played against one of our NMs [note the PGN erroneously says IM]. It ended in a draw. I thought I had a great position out of the opening but then I accumulated errors in the later middle game and into the end game. I think the game helps to illustratrate that black has excellent chances in the Budapest and my mistakes later in the game will probably be instructive on how not to play :P I do think the game is a bit entertaining in that it it is all about harrassing white's queen in the middle game.
I suspect this is probably common at my rating in correspondence. An area I am strong in is opening prep, reams of pre-prepared analysis in the openings I like to play, and great databases of games in those openings. Get me out of my reference material and I'll often zig when I should have zagged and find myself in trouble. Currently I am focused on getting better in the middle game both in terms of tactics and positional considerations.
If we had time, it might be interesting for me to send my analysis to my opponent and ask him to comment as well.
I currently have a much stronger player looking over the game for me and might have additional comments to add but realize that you need some candidate games ASAP so here it is as it currently stands...
My submission is a 15/10 game I played here, I had the initiative and it seemed like it should be winning but just couldn't break my opponent's defense, even in my analysis. I'd love some feedback.

These are all great guys! Going to be hard to choose our first one! Look for April to be our first issues with Member Analysis.
Here is a live game I just played online with the white pieces. The time control was 30 0. My opponent played a rather suspect maneuver that won a pawn but gave me probably more than enough compensation with a lead in development and opposite colored bishops. I had a win that gave the exchange back in return for an attack on the king that I missed in the game (see move 26). Instead, I transitioned into a Queen and Rook endgame that was winning for me because of my two extra pawns and black's open king position. I blundered away one of the extra pawns but won the game on time.
The game in retrospect appears to be one-sided. It does, however, show that even though you can get a great position out of the opening and in the middle game, conversion is crucial. I was able to put away the position because I was up enough material and my opponent was low on time. In a game with closer margins of error, a similar approach from me might constitute losing or drawing a winning position. I simply must improve upon tactically converting my better positions as incisively as possible. Winning a game in 30 moves instead of 50 moves is not only more accurate and uplifting but limits my opportunities to throw away an advantage.
I would be interested in seeing how correct my analysis is (I didn't use any computers when checking it, just my own thoughts--so it is entirely possible I missed something) and hope it is instructive.
A correspondence game I recently played against a higher rated opponent who previously lost to me by blundering because he was overconfident. My rating the first time I played him was 1284, his was 1496. This time he was going to play more seriously. Unfortunately he played the Philidor Defense Antoshin variation, which is my speciality as white, as I have studied it extensively. I would consider this game my best win so far.

Thanks everyone! April's game has been chosen ;)
Not telling who's game it was until the issue comes out though!

Please continue posting games for May! We will also keep previous entries in our thoughts as well...

feel free to use what parts you like (although attribute sources appropriately, to me or whoever), or to cut out parts of my blathering, other source games, opinions from higher rated players may be interesting and would be appreiciated... relevant to the game, improvements, ideas i could have considered. feel like i could be performing so much better... i feel like i'm hacking like a discount greg shahade (but with more hair + charm ). constructive suggestions, AN (analysis) welcome.

I think this game may be entertaining. A bit of a comedy of errors culminating in a draw when black could have played on for a win. I was playing black. I made an opening error and then I think this game goes on to highlight my difficulty with these kinds of positions with no clear kingside attacking plans. During the middle game I was struggling to figure out what my plan should be and was just trying to make logical moves. I think black was lucky to get some counterplay when white may have stumbled with a plan that was a bit too slow. I was quite happy to get the draw and did not realize black had strong winning chances at the end.

I just made my selection for GM Dzindzichashvili to analyze for June! Guess which one? Please start submitting games for July's Bulletin!
