Reuben Fine wrote a lot of good chess books!
I too tend to read more than to play these days. I am hoping to go an OTB tournament next weekend.

A new chess book by Quality Chess is coming to the shops very soon. It is called "Chess Structures" by the young Mauricio Flores and looks extremely interesting. Hopefully it is as good as Kmoch's "Pawn Power in Chess" or Soltis' "Pawn Structure Chess".

I did OK in the OTB in December, shared 3rd prize in my class with 3.5/5. It was fun to sit at the board again, must do that more often...

I have bought so many books and yet to finish the last 5..... not even close. I need to find a way to create more time to study. I need to find a buddy that has some good books and borrow them that way i would be forced to read them with some urgency.

Same boat here, Royal!  Exactly the same!

Right now I am studying "TacticsTime2" by Colorado Chess friends Anthea Carson and Tim Brennan.

I also like Polgar's Tactics Book.

My favorite Beginner's Books

"Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" by Bobby Fischer

"CHESS: From First Moves to Mate" by Daniel King

Thanks Rob!  Have not seen either Tactics books you list.  Hmmm...

Just received my newest additions:

Morphy's Games of Chess

The Modern Tiger ( an updated version of the "go-to" book on the Modern Defense)

Skinnyhorse

I give a strong vote to: "Techniques of Positional Play" by Valeri Bronznik, which is a kindle book.  It teaches you techniques that Grandmasters know, but you don't.

thanks Draebi!

KJ just put out a list of great books organized by rating levels.   A must read!

A very good one reading at the moment is Gelfand's "Positional decision making in chess". Think there will be a series of books with him.
