The group was created to publicize chess activities at the Carver Center in Purcellville, VA. Our first (main) purpose is educational. We hold 3 hours sessions every Thursday at 6 PM during the Summer break (June 14th through August 23rd). The lessons are typically broken-up in the following way: 6 to 6:30 warm up exercises 6:30 to 7.15 PM lesson 7:15 PM to 8:55 PM games (with or without clock). The lessons are given by county-volunteer-chess-instructor Raymond Duchesne or other local players who have been willing to thoroughly prepare before presenting a subject of their choice. The subjects can cover all phases and aspects of the game (from tournament preparation to ethics). Our second purpose is to serve as a hub of chess activities in the area. We will support groups who want to use County facilities for tournaments, advertise local clubs and tournaments etc... All players, at all levels, affiliated to clubs or not are welcome.
