I'm afraid that, despite lecturing my daughter on the subject, I didn't bring anything to write down my moves. So from memory this (or something pretty like it) is the rather unfortunate position I got myself into in my final game. Of course, Black played 1... Bxb2, looking to pick up material.

In some desperation, I played 2 Bc3. When he captured my rook, I then recaptured with the bishop, giving me a material loss but dominance over the a1-h8 diagonal.

Curiously, it was this, combined with some rather passive play from him in the middle game that allowed me to unleash a devastating kingside attack.

But it shows why you should never ever give up until you really are beaten.
