About Me:

Left industry for teaching a few years back. Big cut in pay; huge increase in personal satisfaction. Teaching is something anyone can do, but few can do well. I'll work till I drop trying to achieve the latter.

I have two great personal passions outside of my teaching, making music is one of these. I've played instrumental music since I was 9, starting with grade school band. Played woodwinds from the start, but taught myself a passing level of keyboard skill as an adult. Played in rock and roll and variety bands over the years, but now limit my playing to the church ensemble. Love music. All kinds. Well, almost all kinds.

Chess is my other personal passion. If we get to play a game or two and have some fun, that'd be great. Since neither of us is making our living playing chess, let's be light-hearted about it. I'll issue a 'gl' for good luck at the beginning, and always offer a 'handshake' at the end regardless of outcome.

If chess improvement came simply through the purchase of chess books, I'd be a titled player by now. Alas, both talent and effort are required for significant success at this game. The rules can be learned in 5 minutes. Playing well may remain elusive for a lifetime. Still, I trudge on. I do get enjoyment from playing and it's a great excuse to avoid real work at times. I guess I'll keep playing.Laughing
