When 5 yrs old in Hong Kong hospital, my brother taught me to play chess to relieve my boredom. I've been periodically playing the ancient game ever since, sometimes for my school/employees team and once with my local club, but never to a very high standard. Online chess is fun, but cannot really be compared to OTB chess and the 'ticking clock' (BCF rating was around 160 in 1985). Some of my best games have been stalemates - its also a method of sifting out cheats who employ computer assist to win live games; I have yet to come across the computer that actually plays for stalemate to avoid defeat
Elgar, also a Wolves FC supporter, inspired EnigmaVariation and his famous spirit of 'Land of HOPE and glory'!
Working in full time employment at present playing no more than 10 games, but try to make at least one move per day, and have not yet had any 'time outs'......
