I love chess for the complexity and the fact that there's always another level. A grandmaster once said you don't actually know how to play real chess until you're over 2400 and from what I've seen I agree. I see myself as knowing all the basics but I'm just learning how to truly apply them. The situation is analogous to someone who knows things such as calculus, trig, algebra, set theory, etc, not yet being a true mathematician. It's when you start to solve the big complex problems that you're truly there: all the other things are simply the tools to solve them.
