Greetings.  My father taught me to play chess when I was 9 years old.  He only taught me piece moves and no tactics.  However, I was lucky to have some friends and family that also played, so I learned a little.  I read some books and played a little through high school and college, but was not serious and had few good oponents.  When I joined my current company, that changed.  Suddenly I met better players and had to begin studying to learn openings, tactics, etc.  I play regularly now, both on line and over the board.  To me, chess is a delightful past time.  It is recerational.  I enjoy the struggle-- the war on the board.  I enjoy learning and improving, both thru play and some study, but chess is still just a hobby for me.  I do not compete.  I play for fun and personal reward. I enjoy the online games, especially with people from all over the world.
