About Me:
I enjoy chess as a vehicle of self-understanding & ideally self-mastery. I like my space but am naturally pretty social (another plus of chess, gives an opportunity to connect w/ so many people). Still young & trying to figure out my place in the world, how to inspire myself & others, what I'm meant to be doing, etc. I'm interested in sustainable living, concerned about climate change & peak oil. I would like to see mankind be able to transition to a workable way of living.
Learned the rules at 7 or 8 and promptly forgot about the game for the most part until 19 when my soon to be best friend in college sparked my interest (after crushing me game after game w/ rook odds).
Almost won an under 1600 tourny in NYC in 2005 (4-1), almost won a U16 in Vegas in '08 (5-1) and did pretty well @ the World Open in Penn '08 (5-3-1).
My friend who taught me the game tragically died three years ago. I play on both out of love for the game & in his honor. My style, well, I like to think it's pretty solid & tactical. I don't like to take too many risks but I don't like to miss opportunities either.
