About Me:

I learnt how to play chess 7 years ago, but only ever played it properly and competitively for just over 1.  Mike Basman's tournament, the British Land Chess Challenge, actually started me off.  But I've loved chess ever since.

My favourite hobbies are chess (obviously; I LOVE it!), cricket, football and all other sports.  But I love a good game of chess.  I like quite agressive openings - my favourites being the Closed Sicilian, the Evan's Gambit (yes; open and closed games, I don't mind), the Friedliver, the Pirc and Modern systems and I also like experimenting with sideline openings - the 'Grob'  (1. g4), the 'Reverse Grob' (1...g5), the 'Creepy Crawly' {proper name 'The Clemenz Opening'} (1. h3), the 'Anderssen's Opening' (1. a3), the 'Saint George Defence' (1...a6 and 2...b5), and the 'Larsen's Defence' (1. b3).

I have many chess heroes.  They include: Short, Adams, Kasparov, Fischer, Keene, Morphy, Anderssen, Basman, Carlsen, Karjakin...the list goes on.

I love chess! What is better than a good game of chess, especially on chess.com? I can't think of much.

Why not join the brilliant group Checkmate!

Fancy being a 'Checkmater!'?

Checkmate! is a great group to the envy of all others! We have lots of things going on at the moment here, what with group tournaments (including Checkmate!'s Strongest Player Tournament, with 7 qualifying stages and a puzzle round), Checkmate!'s Who Wants to be an Adminnaire?©, where members compete for a place as admin, in a seperate group, our weekly look and debate on an opening (each Sunday), and of course the Checkmate! Grand Prix, in which the members of the group compete in a points system for prizes. Also, we have a 'Continuous Quiz', in which a puzzle is posted every few days, for points.

We are a VERY active group!

Checkmate! - the group for anyone and everyone.

I am a Paul Morphy lover.  Most of you will have seen this game before, but I thought I'd just but it in for its incredible brilliance:
