Got my first chess set when I was eight. Played in Junior High and High School chess clubs. Then Fred Byron, my mentor, a book seller from Idaho moved next door. He was good at chess rated around 1700 or 1800 and a master at Bridge if I remember correctly. Anyway, I must have played a thousand games with Fred and that's how learned the game. I left for the Air Force after that. My BS Degree from ASU got me a commission and I became a B-52 Navigator/ Bombardier. When I got settled in Shreveport, LA I joined the Chess Federation and played in a few Tournaments. That was a long time ago... I'm just now starting with new interest in the game. Oh, the Professer Fether bit. Its my old SASS alias from a sport called "Cowboy Action Shooting." My twin brother Peter(who also plays chess) is "Doctor Tarr."
