I learnt chess while doing my graduation, when my friend beat me in a casual match. So i came home very miffed and asked my dad to teach me (he is a very good player). Within a month, i defeated my friend soundly over the board. One of the best moments of my life, and thanks to my friend for beating me the first time, else i would have missed the magic of chess.
