Hello All Chess Enthusiast!!! Thanks a million for stopping by and checking out my profile. I am an educator/artist who is currently teaching drawing and painting at a small, (7,000 +/- students) community college in southern Maine. It seems chess has been a part of my life ever since my father started teaching me the game way back in the 60's. My desire to be decent at it far exceeds my abilities as numerous years have been strung together when I have not played at all. I cannot say that chess has influenced my creative endeavors, however I can say that I do believe it has influenced my analytical skills in the creative process. In terms of a marriage of art and chess, my favorite has to be Marcel Duchamp because of his tenacity when playing correspondence chess and how he references chess in some of his art, specifically E'tant donne's. In graduate school I wrote an extensive research paper entitled "Duchamp and Metaphysical Chess" in which I tried to draw distinct connections between Duchamp's art and chess. The paper remains to be reconciled. Since being encouraged to join Chess.com by my brother-in-law I am looking forward to the joys and frustrations of venturing again onto the 64 square grid of infinite possibilities.
